Title: crashed the omega!
Post by: innes on 14 June 2012, 23:50:35
Yep after one month of ownership today I have knackered it against a brick wall! Don't ask. Write off!!
Anyway just wondering which model and engine size to go for next?? ? I only do few miles on daily basis but more at weekend. Should I look at pre facelift or facelift. Looking at around 500-700 quid. Any ideas please let me know. My last one was a 2000 2.2 CD auto. Loved it.  Gutted

Bugger!!!

If your 'new' car is only getting limited use, go for the biggest engine you can find eg 3.0 (a 3.2 is unlikely to be within your budget) ...... big is best, bigger is better still  ;) ;)

How will tax and insurance be compared to mine?  Is the larger engine more reliable?

The important thing is that no-one is hurt :y But I can understand that it's still not good for you :(

Anyway, if you go for a 2.5 or 3.0 the tax will probably be less than you pay for the 2.2 ;)

Sure there were some good ones in the sales section recently :-\ The 2.6/3.2 (probably outside your budget as said) is £260 (or £270) per year to tax

2.5 in both forms, V6 petrol, straight 6 diesel. (bmw lump)

Asking which is best is an utterly pointless question really, clearly the 3.0 is faster, but 2.5 is more economical. Nothing to pick between them mechanically really, you need to pick the one which will suit your needs.  :y

On paper, yes. In reality there's very little in it and as it's a "weekend" car I doubt the economy difference will even be noticeable ;)

The performance difference, however, is much more noticeable. :y

Agreed and was part of the reason I sold mine having driven a few 3.0/3.2's the 2.5 is lacking a little even with 3.0 cams fitted.
