Title: 'Oil lack' again
Post by: bootie on 16 June 2012, 15:18:05
So, after reading as many posts as I could on the subject, I have ascertained that the sensor lives inside the sump on a 2.5 TD yes? Could somebody please confirm for me?
Is it a big job?
Is it worth it? (how much is that sensor?)
We check the oil regularly and it has not strayed below the 1/2 way mark at all in the last 6 months since the warning first showed.
I am just now going to top up with 1 ltr just to see if that makes a difference.
I see in other posts that the problem went away after an oil change. This is due in the next couple of months so will see then.

I've had the same problem with my v6 for 2 years  :(

About half way down the dipstick and on it comes  >:(

If its the same as the v6, the sensor is clipped onto the inside of the sump cover and basically sits in the oil.
To replace it, you have to remove the sump  :(

I found that after a good scrub with a toothbrush and a good squirt with some carb / brake cleaner, my worked ok  :y

I take it you did the cleaning with sump off then? Or did you find a way to get the toothbrush in through the dipstick hole and.... no of course not ;D ::)
I'm just now going to top up the oil and see what occurs!

Seeing as it is half empty, now would be a good time to drain the remainder and fill with fresh oil and replace the filter as well
V6'S love fresh golden oil. ;)

Mmm, seeing as I have limited resources while in Scotland I have to leave that for the professionals, booked in for an oil change next month. Just topped up a litre and the 'oil lack' has gone from the display. Going to see how long that lasts then see if I have a leak or whether it's just this tired oil burner using oil!!!!
