Please help... Just gone out to take my missus to her dads and my 98 omega v6 has just decided to gimp out on me... It started initially but then stalled after 3 seconds and now it's just turning the starter motor... All electrics are fine and I tried the spare key as well but still getting the same result any body experienced this before or know what this could possibly be and how much it will cost to fix?

Paperclip it for codes, possible crank sensor http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90581.0

Sorry this may be a silly question but have you got fuel and is it getting as far as the injectors ?.
Simple ti check by removing 1 of the fuel feeds to the fuel rail on the drivers side

had a similar thing on my 2.6 turned out to be maf sensor, but as robg has already said read codes first :y

I'd go with Rob on this, crank sensor. This went on my old elite, did the same thing as yours has done.
Do the paperclip test before you do anything else though :y

... All electrics are fine...
Is the e.m.l. coming on with the ignition? Is it flashing?
Also does the engine sound like it's turning over faster than usual? Maybe worth checking timing belt integrity...
-
The engine itself isn't turning over at all... The fuel pump turns on and the starter motor is turning over but nothing is happening... Fuel is definitely getting to the piston chambers and the spark plugs are all igniting.. I almost want to say its like the part of the starter that cranks the engine isnt connected to anything if that make sense ?

Check the cambelt is still in one piece

Where are you looking to tell whether your engine is turning over. You should be looking at the large pulley wheel right the bottom of the engine ie crank shaft pulley. If that's turning but the cams aren't (gently prise the cam cover forward and look at the cam pulleys) then it's as Rob suggests ..... your cam belt has gone.
Also, it's not unheard of for the flex plate - an automatic cars version of a flywheel - to crack around the bolts that hold it to the crankshaft. ....... which relates to your comment that the starter isn't connected to the engine. :y :y

Just done the paper clip test and is flashing up as 19 which is Incorrect rpm signal (1 flash followed by 9 flashes) any more help... Sorry to be a pain guys

Crank shaft sensor failure, but that assumes that the engine is actually turning over

I could be massively wrong.... But to be honest it just doesn't sound the way it normally does when I turn the key.... All I can hear is a loud whirring

What can you see moving under the bonnet when someone else turns the key? ;) ;) You're looking for the crank pulley to spin as above. :y :y :y

I'm on my own so I can't really see anything

The crank pulley will still spin even if the cam belt is totally snapped...

Which will prove that the bottom part of the engine is turning .. ie .. the starter is achieving something at least ....... if the bottom half is stationary ....... its nowt to do with cambelts !!

Finally got someone to turn it over whilst I checked pullovers and can belt and all is still turning over.... Please excuse my dumbness I'm secretly a blonde... So with the fault code I list earlier.. What u guys reckon it could be and can any body supply me with a replacement ?

See reply #12 ::) ::) ::) Crank shaft sensor :y and buy a genuine sensor & not a pattern/generic part

As Andy says, genuine sensor only http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90540.0

Cheers guys...much obliged :p

Are you looking at the cam belt or the auxiliary belt? If its the belt you can see without removing anything, its the auxiliary belt.
