Is the information in the document classified?  I hope not if it is on a CITRIX system.  In which case I am guessing it is of commercial value?  If it contains information of a personal nature for you or someone else then by law you must take all reasonable precautions to safeguard the information.  How much security you put on that depends on the impact level of the personal data being transmitted, the ICO can give you some guidance on that.

You can password protect against modification but it wont stop anyone copying the information and it would be pretty easy to intercept and thus read if you had the correct resources and the will.

If you wish no one but the recipient to be able to view the file you will have to encrypt it, PGP is ok for most purposes.  Regardless of what program you use make sure it has a public and private key arrangement.

I guess also your CITRIX system has some kind of external web portal?  If not then you will probably need assistance and permission to export on to a system which does.

Where I work, this type of endevour is pretty labour intensive.

Pretty sure Adobe Acrobat will do what you need assuming you have access to it.

I managed to pop it into a winzip file and then encrypt it with a password also. I/T stuff gives me migraines!
