....And I'm presuming it's a b*stard because of it's awkward location as opposed to it being done up too tight? Stupid Q but hey, I'm full of dummy Q's ;)

yes.
look where the dipstick is, next to it is a lifting bracket, follow it down & you will see the single bolt. :y

Separate it from the transfer pipe
which end will it seperate from rob? the bastard bolt end or the stat housing end?:)

Twist the coolant pipe or stat housing whatever is easiest for you

you might be more inclined to call it the b*stard bolt when you try to put it back where it came from. ;)

yup .. I seem to remember Daz saying how easy it was (on removal) .... then I watched him struggle, and struggle, and swear , and eventually get it all put together beautifully .. :)

It is all due to the angle of dangle :P
The block has a 54 degree included angle so the bolt screws into the side of the block at 27 degrees from horizontal.
If you can judge 27 degrees from horizontal while starting the B*bolt in a thread you cannot see then it is easy ;D

+ 1 and have the swear box handy :y

its ok if your left handed like me lol ;D

Having just done mine Webby, I found it easier, on replacement, to fix the transfer pipe in the required position with its b*&$@td bolt hole aligned, by, once aligned, tightening one or two stat retaining bolts ( the stat housing not necessarily in its final position) thus, hopefully, holding the transfer pipe in one place while starting the *******************bolt. I hope that makes sense. :y

You might also want to have a long magnetic bolt retreaver and a good torch as if like me you drop the damn thing several times into the bowels of the engine bay it comes in handy.
Just remember the bolt needs to go through the lifting eye/lug on transfer pipe/ and dipstick lug so takes a fair bit of fiddling around .
Getting it out was easier than putting it back in ...oh er ;D ;D ;D..but my grief came when I kept dropping the bolt :'(
