Title: Intermittent problem
Post by: Bazz72 on 22 June 2012, 15:12:06
Hi All, im new to the site looks cool..and hope someone can shed some light for me?! :D
A few weeks back i had my 2.5 elite serviced and the mechanic noticed the rocker gaskets needed replacing as there was oil
in the plug wells, i had this changed as it was affecting the drive, as in choking up etc..i thought as it was covering the spark plugs it must be this...but its still playing up after the work. nothing appears on the scan not 1 fault code, im sure its not a missfire, it will behave from cold, i drove it 30 miles on the A2 and back to my house and it seemed fine as soon as i slowed to turn right i touched the throttle and it choked up and stalled, it started fine then again when i slowed the revs dropped right off very erratic at low revs...also i revved the car up to around 3000 rpm and took my foot off the gas and it dropped off and stalled..funny how this only happening after the car is warm etc

Any thoughts would be helpful

Had new plugs, air filter, crank sensor, o2 sensor, coil pack, and leads around 3 months ago

If its still playing up i would do the plugs, leads and coil (DIS) pack, mine did the same!

Stalling off the throttle, if I understand your post correctly, is the idle air control valve at fault. Remove, clean with carb cleaner, light oil, re fit insuring air tight seal. Might need two or three attempts before it settles down, IME.

If symptoms persist replace with used.

Hi All

i stripped down the breather system cleaned all parts and replaced seals where needed, it drove ok for around 25 miles
but still seems to choke up/idle rough from time to time only when hot and it seems to be getting warmer quicker than usual

could this be something to do with temp sensor?

All ideas appreciated  :D

The plugs were replaced 5 weeks ago, the leads were replaced around a year ago, along with the coil pack

It seems to have settled down now, maybe some of the carb cleaner was still in the system, will see how it goes anyway

thanks all for the help  :y

Hi all

unfortunately the problem is still there! driving along earlier, loss of power to the point it stalled as it was driving, its been as good as gold up to now :-\
pulled over started it back up, idled really rough, and cut out again, after a few more attempts it came alive then seemed to clear itself, and started driving fine again, thorn in my side .

Any ideas??

Cheers
