Title: Proud day for the family ...
Post by: SIR Philbutt on 25 June 2012, 23:33:10
This Saturday the Olympic torch relay came through Rochdale.

Some of you may be aware (and those that are not are going to be) that my late father designed and manufactured the Rochdale marque of cars. The last being the Olympic first produced in 1960 and named after the Rome Olympics of that year.

As part of the festivities around the torch relay the council invited the Rochdale Owners club to provide some cars for the event. Eight Olympics and 2 GT's where present on the day and provided a "guard of honour" as the torch passed through the town centre and then followed the torch for the rest of it's journey through Rochdale.

As part of this my brother and I + swmbo's where invited as VIP's to a meal with the club and council members the night before and given the VIP treatment by the mayor and club during the festivities. 8) :y

As you can probably tell I really enjoyed this, firstly for my son as he never met this granddad :'( and is increasingly interested in what he did  :), but mostly for my dad who would have been overjoyed by the recognition given  :-*

Anyway if you are still reading, here are some pictures and a youtube link to the actual procession

Cars in it from 2:55. I am in the green one and "mini me" is in the red one behind it

No doubt a proud and emotional day for your family.  :y  I take it someone stood guard over the cars while you were at the hotel.
