Title: Elite driver's seat into MV6 not working
Post by: sjc on 28 June 2012, 18:48:29
Hi guys

I've fitted a full Elite interior into my MV6 and all is good except that the driver's seat won't move.

I've followed TheBoy's guide on supplying power to the memory ECU and check that the necessary voltage is present at the correct pins on the connector but no joy.  The big power wires are red and black on my seat, not red and brown like in TBs photo.

Can't see that it would make any odds, but the seat is still tipped back so I can get to the wiring.

Are the memory ECUs guilty of packing in?  Anything else I can check?

TIA

Oh, forgot to mention, I haven't seen the drivers seat work, I bought the interior from an OOF member.

Is it attempting to move? can you hear a clicking? Where you supplied with the "emergency winding handle" ?

It inserts into the motor, it takes about 1,000,000,000 rotations to move it 10 cms though!  ;D

I remember going to a scrap yard with TB, getting Elite seats. To get access to the bolts seat had to be moved backwards and forwards with it, as it was scrappy and no power, made for a lot of winding!  ;D ;D

Hi Tunnie, thanks for your reply.

No response at all to any of the switches - can hear the switch clicking but nothing else.  Passenger seat all works fine (no bearing on fault, I know).

Not got handle but I'm sure I can rig something up with cordless drill and square drive adaptor  ;)  which would at least let me bolt it down.

Maybe I'll lift it back out and see if I can diagnose problem out of the car - I have a spare sill loom that I can use to get power from a battery to it.

Cheers.

Pulled the seat back out, pulled the power connector out of the memory unit and guess what?

Connectors in the plug are green  >:(

Luckily I've got the remnants of another Elite to pick the bones of but it's a '94 Elite and doesn't have the big sill connector block so there's gonna have to be some hacking.

Update to follow...

Now sorted!

I added an in-line fuse for the +ve supply to the small red and black wires (cos I'm paranoid).

Thanks for the help guys.

what was the problem?

Hi TB

Problem was corroded connectors for the 2 big wires, oddly the ECU pins were clean so maybe just a duff plug.  I cut a good plug and length of wire off my '94 Elite breaker (which doesn't have the sill multi-plug, everything just goes straight into the loom) and spliced that into the good part of the seat wiring.

Job jobbed, as they say!

Cheers for your "how to" mate, saved me getting the magnifying glass out to decrypt the wiring diag in the Haynes manual  :y
