Not such a bad job really, but dont cut away anymore of the trim/dash than is necessary as that way you will end up with an almost invisible repair.

The 2 rubber "0" rings from VX are silly money but unsure if much else would work..matrix can be bought new for around £40 so also not too expensive a repair either.

Better to be doing this in the warmer months ...I ended up changing mine in early February and it was bloody cold especially using the car for the 3 days whilst I waited for the new matrix to be delivered.

Crickey,Rob...thats cheap.

I bought mine from local factors ..is a Nissenn and was £41.28 inc so I was happy to pay that just to get some heat  ;D

Did find that the aftermarket type don,t have the foam wadding around the ends so you end up with quite a loose fit in the craddle and get cold air blasting through.I rolled up some thin foam and packed it around the edge of the matrix and job sorted.

    Can I recap?
I'm loosing cooling water slowly, the condense water from under the motor tastes bitter, although it's gin clear, does this indicates that a new Heater Matrix is required??
Lacking a bit of confidence at the moment. :-[  Little push required :y :y Before I start cutting.

If matrix is leaking, interior front carpetting (mainly driver`s side) will be damp/wet. You sure it`s not the HBV

Doesn,t sound like you have a problem with your heater matrix.

As advised you will know if it lets go as drivers footwell and behind seat area will get a very wet carpet.Quick check would be to start car and put heater on Hi..put hand down into drivers foot well and feel carpet if its leaking you will know pretty quickly.

Sounds more like HBV or associated pipework if you are only loosing a bit but needs looking at.....Dont start cutting the dash though ;)

Thanks Rob/amba
Bone dry in foot wells.  Cann't see any leaks anywhere, no coolant stains either, will change HBV anyway, if it isn't that, Ill class it as preventive maintenance 8) :y
