Title: insurance question
Post by: noel on 01 July 2012, 08:30:13
after a rear end shunt into my mig >:( by some noob not paying attention at a roundabout  ::).
just had a letter back from the people who did the claim estimate and say that the cost of the repairs is greater than 66% of the value of the car so i think they may write it off as a cat d. :-\
i have asked if i can have the car back as only light damage (dent in boot lid & cracked rear bumper).
my question is when buying the car back from them will the cost of buying it back be the scrap value ??, and if its a cat d write off will i just need to put it back through an mot before i can drive it again ??

thanks Noel :y

.....i have asked if i can have the car back as ........

You have no need to ask for the car back, you already own it. Don't be bullied by either of the insurance companies to let them take you car if/when they write it off.  :y :y Take their 2nd or 3rd offer & use the money to buy a second hand bumper/etc to put your car back to its originial condition.  :y

Just remember, if you are claiming off of the third party you have no contract with them so they cannot just refuse repair ;) It's a useful tool to increase the offer from them, then (as said) keep the car and repair at your leisure :y

I recently had same problem. Third party's insurance company were taking full responsibility. Got offer for my car, refused the 1st and accepted the second. Then asked about keeping the car and they said they would have to charge me the recovery fee which they said was £200. I told them no chance that I would keep the car and take they're 2nd offer or no deal. Woman said she needed to check with her supervisor, phoned back in 5 mins to say that was fine.

It is your car so just stand your ground and take no shit from them.  :y

I kept the motor and sold it as damaged repairable and with the insurance payout I doubled my money on it
