Hi. i drive a 51 plate 2.2 omega automatic saloon. the engine has recently started misfireing when I try rapid accelaration which makes coming onto roundabouts in the rush hour quite a nerve racking experience. The car is fine with gentle acceleration and does 70mph on the motorway no problem but heavy accelerating wether from start or even from 50mph and it misfires badly sometimes to the point where I have to stop and switch off the engine and when I start it again it is back to normal. I had the faulty rocker cover gasket replaced recently so there is no oil in the plug wells. I have searched the faq etc but cannot find a similar problem so I hope some knowledgable omega owner can throw some light on my problem. Hoping for a quick response.

Pop the Coil pack out, and inspect if for signs of cracks (esp rusty ones) or arching.

HI CHECKED IT TONIGHT AND IT LOOKS PERFECT. CAR HAS DONE LESS THAN 90,000 MILES. ONE THING THAT CONCERNS ME IS COULD THE SYMPTONS BE AS A RESULT OF A FAILURE IN THE CYCINDER HEAD GASKET. THEIR HAS BEEN AN OIL LEAK ON THE CAR FOR A WHILE BUT I HAVE NOTICED RECENTLY THAT THE OIL LEVEL REMAINS THE SAME AS IF THE OIL LEAK HAS STOPPED BUT THE VEHICLE IS USING A LOT OF WATER. THE HEAD GASKET WAS CHANGED ABOUT 30,000 MILES (5 YEARS) AGO. ANY GUIDANCE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. REGARDS, KEITH.

FULL CAPITALS IS CONSIDERED SHOUTING ;D :y ... I take it going to a vauxhall garage is out the question ?

Keith, check the coil pack again with a fine tooth comb, mine had the finest of fractures it was difficult to see but caused exactly the problems you are having :(

I think you've hit the nail on the head. Took your advise and re examined the coil pack with a magnifying glass and low and behold there are at least 4 hairline cracks in it which I didn't see when I first inspected it.. Dont know wether to chance a scrap yard spare or go for a new one. Any idea of cost?. Regards, keith.

Hi. Thanks for the suggestions on the site regarding engine misfire which turned out to be spot on. Installed a new coil pack and engine is like new (apart from spinning radiator which I am still trying to resolve) so thanks again. Keith.
