Title: problems!!
Post by: horsecow on 03 July 2012, 16:33:24
Hi all, was doing nothing today so decided to monkey about with the motor. Took crankcase breather off and gave all a good clean then decided to have a look at the coilpacks when I was at it. This is where the problems started.

1.  Whoever took the 1,3,5 coilpack off last had wrung one of the bolts and not bothered fixing it, just pushed it back in!!! Now I'm guessing this is gonna be a bitch to fix so I need all the help you can give me.

2. On removing 2,4,6 coilpack i noticed a lot of dust/dirt caked inside around the plugs. The seals on the coilpack look ok but overall its looking a bit tired so will be replaced as soon as possible. Just wondering the best way to get a good clean in there as it looks very small and tight inside. Will obviously replace the plugs as well.

3. Have got 2 prices for the new coilpacks, £140 from vauxhall dealer or £67 from local parts store. Local guy says its a geniune brand but Ive forgotten the make of it, anyone think the cheaper one would be ok??

1. Does the other bolt bite & hold? If so i'd say just live with it, just check it every oil change  :y

2. I would not worry too much about dust/dirt, just do what you are doing and remove it every so often and clean it.

3. Ring AndyC, he will give you trade price of the coil pack for a lot less that £140.

I used a Bosch coilpack, about £80 iirc.  There was a no-name one about £10 cheaper at the time...

The pedal trick is telling me that there's a misfire on 2,4,6 so I guess thats down to the coilpack and the dirt/dust thats in there or the plugs so changing both just to be sure.

ok, that makes sense  :y however, i'd get clarification from somebody on here that it's definitely nackered as my understanding is the pedal trick shows old codes that may not be a problem anymore. just trying to think of your wallet  :y
