Title: Higgs Boson
Post by: Rods2 on 04 July 2012, 20:35:54
Historic day today with the revealing of a 99.99994% proof of the existence of this particle.  :y :y :y

This is the only unproven particle in the Standard Model for Particle Physics. More experiments are required to work out its full characteristics.

I'm still trying to get my head around what it does.  :o :o :o

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Higgs_boson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Higgs_boson)

I'm sure this greater understanding of particle physics will lead to new inventions.

Ive been surprised on how many negative comments there have been on various forums with many people saying CERN is a waste of money that could be better spent elsewhere.  >:( >:( >:(

What these people need to remember is that 250 years ago, electricity was a novelty with no practical applications and look where we are now.  :y :y :y

Yes fantastic stuff. I wonder how long before someone makes a Higgs Boson Bomb (HBB), a gazillion times more potent than an atomic bomb? :y

A colleague of mine once saw Prof Higgs walking down the street in Edinburgh (?); very unassuming fella apparently.
I asked this colleague "Is he a big bloke?"
"Not that I recall" said he.

"Oh," said I, "I thought he might be massive..."

Simply awesome news that blows my tiny mind. With barely a double-digit I.Q I find it hard to get my head around the implications. :y

That was very good.  :y :y :y

This one on dark matter is also interesting:

Nice chips :)             ....Leptons...? H21 was right. ;D

Leptons to be patented as the new replacement for Mph ASAP. Hopefully we might then get to a destination at least on time once in a while. :)

Cheers Al. Enjoyed that. :y

A Higgs Bosun walks into a church, the Priest says "We don't allow Higgs Bosun types in here, you'll have to leave!"

Higgs Bosun replies, "But without me, how do you have Mass?"
