Title: Coolant level warning
Post by: KJO on 09 July 2012, 11:50:13
I've got the following message displayed on the MID "Coolant level". The expansion tank is up to the correct level when the engine is cold. I took it out for a drive the warning remained even though after the drive the level in the expansion tank was still at the correct level. Could this just be a faulty sensor and if so how do I go about replacing it? If not does anyone know what the problem is? The car is a 00 September 2.2 auto petrol Omega which has done 150k miles. :(

the float is stuck, or the sensor has gone, try poking your finger in there to wiggle the float. (with engine cold)

Otherwise its a new bottle, around £35, worth while as they are clear and make engine bay look a lot better  :)

First check that the float switch in the coolant bottle hasn't stuck, push it up & down a few times with a pencil or finger if the coolant is cold enough! If the warning is still there remove the metal clip fastening the bottle to the inner wing, slide the bottle gently inwards an inch or so to clear the fixing guide & tilt the bottle enough to check that the multiplug is tightly pushed home. If the warning light still shows then the float switch is U/S and a new bottle is needed (around £35GBP at a Dealers) Give andyc a PM he is a Parts Manager at a VX Dealership & gives us fellow Oofers a great price on parts etc :y
If the warning is annoying you, it can be cancelled by pushing a wire loop into the multiplug contacts to complete the circuit until you fit a new bottle, just remember to check the coolant level regularly like we all used to before technology took over! ;D ;)

Note to Me... I really must type faster!!! ;D
