Got a 2006 VW Polo 1.4, need the front ball joints doing, however rang euro car parts for a price, they said the ball joints you have to buy separately from the arm, if buy just the ball joints and use the old arm, I take it I'll need a press to get the old ones out?

No, press for bushes.
Ball joints look like they bolt on, going by google images. Where as omega has rivets to drill out first.
Our Haynes is for an earlier model sadly.

Try German and Swedish (GSF)

I've done them on a 55 plate polo and its just 3x13mm spanner head bolts to undo and the main balljoint bolt/taper :y

That's ideal then, I may just get the new arms, although the woman said I'd still have to buy the ball joints separately. Thanks chaps :y.

Would think a close examination of the bushes will make the decission for you...?

They would, but I haven't had the car delivered yet, I got one of my sons to test drive it, and they said there was most defiantly a horrible knocking, and they're advisories on the MOT too.

Had a nephew round a couple of months ago and the big bush in the aluminium housing that the wishbone plugs into pas side was fubar causing a squeak and wayward handling. Similar age I'm fairly sure.
Powerflex do that model.

They suffer really badly with front wishbone rear bush wear, again available seperately and doesn't come with arms,a lot of folk upgrade to Ibiza Cupra bushes as they are solid with less "give" than the swiss cheese VW fare :y
