Title: lowering springs
Post by: flyer 0712 on 10 July 2012, 22:04:09
I have 18 inch oz wheels fitted with 245/45/18 tyres on my 2.2 mig.....would it be ok to lower it by 35mm front and back...or not advisable.....just wondering if it may be ok ..or not... :y

You will probably get some rubbing issues, if not already.

245 40 18 is absolute maximum on both et30(outside wheel arch is very close) or et38 which gives slight restriction on the camber adjustment available before tyre rubs on the strut upright. Both sizes with 30mm drop.
A 245 45 will be worse, and may not clear the spring cup above the tyre when new.

Suggest waiting until one or other axle pair are worn, fit the good ones on the rear, and replace the fronts with 235 35/40 18 on the front. Then lower it.

The rear will be fine, there's loads of room.

That will rub. I've lowered mine on 30mm Weitec springs with Koni Sport shocks and I think it's gone slightly lower than that. I have 235/45/17 tyres on MV6 rims on the front and it comes VERY close to rubbing sometimes. I'll grab a photo in a bit.

Also, remember when lowering, you may need to dial in a bit more camber in its static position, making it closer still.

Additionally, for a UK road car, I wouldn't go lower than 30mm - even thats a pain on some speedbumps.

If you already have LSC, 15mm max

:)

yes, with a full load the back is too low. CliffoB's mod awaits. Or another pad on the rear spring seats.
