hi all still having problems with the front fan running all the time seems to be getting a constant feed to the relay so time to give in.wounder if anyone knows a good auto electrician in ipswich, dont want to go to the main stealers.

When you say constant feed, have you checked / pulled / changed the relay?

have pulled the relay and put a tester in the terminals where the relay fits and there seems to be two live feeds ,electrics not my strong point but this is my thinking and please correct me if im wrong one is the main feed and the other is the switch feed so as son as the relay is fitted it is switched on and fan runs . There is 6 connections on the relay and 1 is a lot smaller than the rest which i guess is the switch? dont want to change it unless im sure as been told the relay is £20 plus and cant help but have my doubts

Dont have diagrams in front of me, but if the relay coil (switch feed as you say) is triggered by going to ground (negative) then I would expect 12v on that pin.
Does the relay clickover when its pulled or put back in, should be able to feel it, if no, then I would be having the relay apart by now and having a look at the contacts and see whats going on, or stick some cardboard in the contacts just to make sure, before ruling out the relay.

when the relay is put back in can feel it click pulled the top of and as soon as the key is turned on can see the contacts move so think it ts working fine not sure what contols this fan, people seem to say its the aircon but never use it so not sure why it should suddenly come on

Relays good then, (aircon?), sorry, when you say front fan, I assume you meant for the Radiator, are you talking about the CC fan?

Is it a 6 cylinder BMW engine or a 4 cylinder Vauxhall?
Never owned a diesel personally but IIRC the BMW keeps a fan running permanently :-\ (unlike any other Omega)
I think AndyB did a write up on how the fans are intended to work and how to test them but I can't find it on OOF (maybe it is on Autobahnstormers :-\)

OK, just sussed you have another Post going on re this one, so best to leave it on that one, my fault, should have not intervened on your search for a Auto Electrician.
A least you know the relays good to go.
So sorry, apart from the Hospital, I dont know any AE's in Ipswich. :y

sorry didnt make my self clear its the rad fan thats the problem i have two fans one engine side of the rad and one grill side of the rad the one engine side which is bigger so i assume that its the main cooling fan seems fine comes on and off and at present no overheating problems,the other fan in front of the rad grill side runs all the time the only way i can stop it is by pulling relay number 6 or buy pulling fuse number 4 (relay under bonnet fuse in side of car)

its a 4 pot vauxhall engine but the fan didnt always run (maybe it should have always been running and has fixed its self )will try and find andyb,s write up anythanks

Front pusher fan should only come on if engine very hot or a/c being used worth checking wiring on a/c pump. Just thought does relay have a times in it? As when i use a/c fan always runs on for minute or so when engine stopped.

sure your right about fan should only run when the engine very hot or when ac on but dont use aircon to mean to pay for the extra diesel will look at ac pump as i did fit a new alternator the other day but to be honest its starting to get the better of me and think its time to let someone look at it but thanks for advice

I believe the fan is controlled by a temperature switch on the rad.Sounds like that is Donald.

is that the switch which is someware near the top hose and if that was the case would just the one fan be on or both any advice is very welcome as im always keen to learn

Nope, not the leccy fans. Although the Beemer TD lump does also have a viscous, which will always turn a bit. Assuming its not in landfill where it belongs.

have pulled number 6 relay but have been looking at it all day and now think it must be the switch in the rad have pulled the wire off the switch and the fan stops? so just need to workout how to change that access seems ltd.

The one that ensures that the radiator rarely gets hot enough to trigger the intercooler fan (which then seizes and blows the fuse when the radiator is too hot ::))

you can find the switch on youre upper right corner of the radiator when you ar standing in front of the car. it has a 3 pin conector if i rember right.
