You need two 21mm sockets. A ratchet, a torque wrench.

21 m.m. or a large spark plug socket!
Also best way is to go in from under the bonnet with a few long extensions...

...if you have a helper to hold the bottom but still.

I tend to do that the other way round so the ratchet stops against the plenum, breaker bar underneath :y
Always struggle with pax side one though :-\

Yes pas side has no direct line of site. Engine mount in the way is it? Never managed to see if a wobbly socket will work... :-\

Not enough room for a half inch wobble :'( end up using a mini breaker bar wedged to the steering idler, fiddly single handed :-\
-
:-[ snaped socket bar. have to get a new one, mig left up in air till then >:(

Ooo that's not good :-\ how would be the next q

was going to at the time just gave one good tug and it snaped, just seeing if it would move without it but hay ho, what fun must of gone weak, be glad when they are changed, was getting abit of back and forth movement, bit more than normal.

I guess that gives you plenty of time to get the steering ball joint out from the stub axle.
If the wb bolts are stuborn the pinch bolt is likely to be a real pita I would think.

I did the ones on my old black Mv6 by my self, twas a few years ago but I don't remember it being tricky...

It's one of those jobs that is either a ten minute blindfolded one or a three hour ballache, with little in between. Mine generally falls into the three hour category ::)

If on your own, it's easier from undernieth IMO. ESP as the top access is only available on the drivers side. If he's struggling for tools, there may not be enough extensions to hand anyway. But each to their own as they say. :)
