Title: Wifey's Focus MOT fail, I'm gonna be a busy boy!
Post by: Crazycarzowner on 17 July 2012, 20:58:10
Poor little Focus! Got the MOT done today, needed a till roll for the failure sheet  ::) :o :o :o

1) Exhaust blowing in 2 places
2) Both front to rear brake pipes excessively corroded
3) Handbrake totally useless
4) Rear o/s shocker leaking
5) Rear n/s spring fractured
6) Rear n/s brake cylinder leaking
7) Front brake pipe excessively corroded
8 ) Front n/s ball joint excessive play
9) Emissions too high
10) Needs New boot as split
11)O/side front lower control arm excessive play

Just looked at last years MOT & its only done 3k since its last one, passed with only 1 advisory (after they changed a bulb) wasn't expecting that  ::) ::) ::)

Weighing up the options now 87k on a 2000 plate......Hmmmm. Although I must say its wifeys little pride & joy and has never let her down. Not really my cup of tea but I can't fault it on the 3 years we've had it. Might just throw a couple o' quid at it & keep her happy, save trawling around to find another one.

Double check those brake pipes before just replacing. Corroded brake pipes was the MOT con. It started quite a few years ago. Basically if they saw dirt they called it corrosion and failed it.

I've been under & had a look, took some emery paper to the pipes and  :o :o its not good news. I'm gonna replace the whole lot, they were bad before I started to clean em, now they're bordering on dangerous. Thing is the bloody pipes go over the top of the petrol tank  >:( >:( so that'll have to come out, just as shes filled the damn thing up  ::) Actually with the state of the rust on the subframe I think I'm gonna drop the whole lot including suspension, blast all the rust off & repaint. Might as well do a proper job!  :y
