Title: Use new bolts/nuts when replacing wishbones?
Post by: Thingymabob on 20 July 2012, 14:32:24
Is it advisable to replace any bolts and/or nuts when replacing the wishbones or can the old ones be reused?

I think the official line is that they should be replaced, but in practice everyone re-uses them and we haven't seen any issues with doing so.

OK thanks, then I'll aim to reuse the old ones.
If any of them looks to shaggy, Iīll get a new one.

Does anyone by chance know the GM numbers and/or dimensions for the parts we're talking about? ???

90468501 (vertical bolt)
90468500 (horizontal bolt)
90468502 ( nuts for both of the above)

Thanks a lot :)

Just to make sure I get it right; 1+1 bolt and 2 nuts, thatīs what keep one wishbone in place, no other bolts or nuts needed? :-\

Depending on the state of/and how much damage you do to it ... you MAY need to replace the pinch bolt on the ball joint, but these are pretty standard nuts/bolts.

When you remove the old wishbone .. make a note of which bolt is vertical and which is horizontal .. they are different lengths ..... when I did the old 2.5 the first time I spent a long while fighting to get the vertical one in  (it can be tricky) only to find I'd put the wrong one in !!!  that resulted in about Ģ5 straight in the swear box believe me !!! ... I now label the bolts with a bit of masking tape after removal !!!  :)

Lemforder wb's come with the pinch nut and bolt. They seem to suffer more with rust and are 100nm tight. They take more of a hammering for the relative size perhaps, so as Entwood says really ... :y

Thanks for all your tips; it's now plain as a pikestaff :y

If anyone is interested, I found this information in the "Opel and Vauxhall genuine OEM parts and accessories catalog"
http://opeloem.com/opel/omega_b_1994_2003/front_axle_and_suspension/front_suspension_arm.html (http://opeloem.com/opel/omega_b_1994_2003/front_axle_and_suspension/front_suspension_arm.html)
This illustrates very clearly what it looks like and which parts are involved.
