Here's a question.
Driving home this afternoon over a long twisty and narrow mountain road in dense mist ( above the cloud line ) I was stuck behind a coach and restricted to driving in third gear at about circa 2000 RPM for probably 10 miles . My speed was fairly steady and I didn't change down to second or stop. Once the opportunity arose I managed to speed up to get passed him safely and then into fourth but almost immediatly the EML light came on.
Car drove perfectly ,temp was normal & no warning message on screen.
I considered stopping but decided to carry on as all seemed OK and got home ( another 5 miles ) without a problem.
I switched off the engine and then restarted and the light illuminated as it should under check condition and then went off .
I'll get the OBD diagnostic computer onto it tomorrow but have been wondering if the ECU would sense incorrect or over use of the gears to RPM to speed ratio through the on board computer and alert the driver who may be unaware of the gear he was in ?
Just a thought ........

worth checking codes stored, and see what comes up then post on here :y
-
it may of been a mis read from the ecu if it keeps doing it see if any codes are stored may be a sensor on its way out.
-
EML light still illuminated .
Didn't get up to the garage to borrow the diagnostic tool to interogate the car but just went out and did a paper clip test and am slightly baffled with the results .
Checking against the two versions othe 2.0 ECU none seem to give a definative answer as per http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90581.0 .
The car is late DEC '99 registered and the flashing sequence is as follows ,
10 1 3 10 10 3 4 10 10 1 3 10 10 3 4 10 repeat .

0130 oxygen/lambda sensor misbehaving
0340 cam sensor misbehaving
Without any drivability problems, I'd be tempted to try to get the codes cleared, and see whether any return.

Clear 'em, see what comes back. Wasn't (directly) caused by the journey, as you did nothing wrong :y
-
Cheers Lads , I'll hopefully get up to the garage tomorrow and check and clear.

Checked it today and fault codes stored were as suggested O2 sensor and cam sensor both intermittent .
No eml light on on drive up .
Cleared both codes so we'll see if they return.
Thanks all. :y
