I got a P1130 "O2 sensor 1 Signal No Activity Detected" several weeks ago. Cleared the fault code and then no EML until recently, which shows the same again. So does that mean O2 sensor needs replacing, or is there another possiblilty. I haven't noticed any actual problems with engine or anything. This is a 2.2, and I think for this model, sensor 1 means the one before the cat - is that correct?

check the wiring plug for the sensor see if it clean in side, if dirty clean it out and see if that sorts it before getting a new sensor.

What are the MAF readings at idle, 2k, 4k (in neutral, not driving)?
What are the short term trim readings (drive it for a day first, after clearing codes)

Thanks for the input, I'll look into it tomorrow.
@TB - I'll try to find those, but a noob with this code reader. Plugged into laptop then ignition on and let it idle while I hunt for the readings?

MAF readings: (V jumps around a bit)
Idle: .7V 10kg/h
2k: 1.35V 25kg/h
4k: 2.2V 58kg/h
Long term trim I couldn't find it, would have expected it after short term trim but wasn't there.
Now I got a P0170 Lean Exhaust, after running it at 4k, cleared it and not back yet.

Not got a 2.2 to check where long term trim reading is.

I'll let you know. Not in a hurry to replace sensors, as car is behaving quite well at the moment.

I had a look at the connector at the other end of the sensor wires - right at the back of the head, needed a mirror to see it, but not very well - how do you get at that?

mine was the same problem and i changed it..cleared fault and is ok now.....mine was held behind the engine and with a bit of stretching and long arms managed to get it out and un clipped...was a bit of a struggle but ok now. :y

put car on some ramps and get at it from underneath. were some gogles as you will be right underneath the wire and muck that can get up there.

The EML came back after about 250 miles and the same codes were back. So I had a look at the O2 sensor connector contacts, as per frecall666 suggestion - very clean. I could see the connector from underneath, from the driver's side, and got it free from the clip, then lying on top of the engine I could just get 2 hand on it to disconnect it. Now I cleared the codes again, and I think I'll wait for a while to see what kind of luck fiddling around with the connector brings, but next step seems to be to change O2 sensor. Whatever the fault is, it's very intermittent and doesn't seem to affect performance. Would there be any point taking out the sensor end and cleaning it?
