Long shot, I think, as all the heavy duty engineering types here live oop norf, but; does anyone in the localish area have a heavy duty windy gun I could borrow briefly?
I only need to get one stubborn 30mm bolt out and it seems silly to either fork out £100 for yet another air gun that 'might' do it, or £100 for a no-name 1" drive gun off eBay that might not work..
My current gun is rated about 300lb/ft, I'm thinking that anything in the 450lb/ft+ working torque range ought to shift it.
-
if you cant get anyone to lend you one i'd buy it, use it, take it back within a day and say your wife bought you another one for your birthday :y
-
Not a bad plan, although I tend to buy everything online - especially tools as they're a lot cheaper. Come to think of it.. I should call AndyC and see if he can get good prices on this (http://www.justoffbase.co.uk/Air-Impact-Wrench-1-2Sq-Drive-Extra-Heavy-Duty-Sealey-SA5-S) or this (http://www.justoffbase.co.uk/Generation-Series-Air-Impact-Wrench-1-2Sq-Drive-Twin-Hammer-Sealey-GSA02).
I think this one (http://www.justoffbase.co.uk/Air-Impact-Wrench-1Sq-Drive-Straight-Long-Anvil-Sealey-SA29-S) might be overkill, though ;D

Sounds like your in snap on or ingersoll rand cordless impact wrench territory.
Do you have a big enough pump to run the higher rated windy...?
-
According to the instruction manual the bigger of the two Sealey 1/2" drive guns actually needs less air than my current gun (4cfm vs. 6cfm) - which is odd..
-
If only you had posted this last week, you could borrow mine. Not certain it'll do it but it's an IR gun and was man enough for lorries in the past :y Still welcome to give it a go but not sure if I'll be able to get it to you before the middle of next month :-\
-
Is it not worth chucking it at a local workshop along with some beer tokens? That's a lot of cash to shift one bolt. :-\
-
Cheers LD, if I get no joy I'll let you know :)
And you have a point Kevin - I might run it up (that's assuming I can lift it off the workbench again, I swear it gets heavier every time ;D) to the local tyre place and see if they can shift it.
It probably doesn't help that the 30mm socket is very loose - maybe it's 29mm really (odd size, though) or something imperial. Annoyingly it's the one bolt the workshop manual doesn't tell you the size of!
[edit] Wait.. isn't 29mm more or less 1-1/8"? Maybe it's that..
-
It's a Jag, it's bound to be imperial ;)
No worries Aaraon... I should be coming down to Basingrad on the 11th August for a leaving BBQ so could possibly meet up then if needs be :y
-
have you a nice large bore, short length flowing hose to the gun?
does make a difference.
-
Aye tidla, I do.. tried with my shortest hose (ooer) and no avail.
I've also discovered the bolt is definitely meant to be a 30mm (according to the Jaguar workshop manual, anyway) even though the socket is a sloppy as heck fit. 29mm doesn't go on (well, I did try hammering it on) so 30mm it is.
I've tried and tried and .. now I'm pissed off with it I'll just take it to the nearest tyre place and have them gun it off with the biggest gun they can find!
-
Might be able to borrow one of these for you, but it won't be until Thursday now. :(

Cheers Chris - be much appreciated if you can :y No rush, it'll be a while until I can be at home for a day to get it anywhere, anyway.
Pesky bloody Jaguar. Well, Salisbury, actually.
-
Put the order in, should get hold of it on Tuesday. :)
If I remember to remind him Monday night. :-\
-
Cheers Chris! Much appreciated :) Give me a tinkle or send me a text when you've got it if you still have my number (as you can see, I forgot to check this thread again :-[ :-[ ) .. and I don't seem to get notifications of PMs either :-/
-
Impact wrench is in the building. :)
-
Awesome, cheers Chris! So, how do you want to do this? ;) Shall I pop over and borrow it, or is it something you'd rather not let out of your sight? In which case I can either stick the diff in the boot and pop over or you're welcome to pop over some time - whatever is best for you, seeing as you're the one supplying the tools :y
-
I'll text you later at a more godly hour, re tomorrow. :)
