i thought it was excessive drinking (which i used to do a lot of) and shite diet. as said though i've given up drinking and walk to and from work, play footy etc, diet could be better but i dont think its mental. scary :(

gout is a nasty one, it can debilitate you to the point where you can no longer do the little things that you take for granted.

basically you need to find out what your triggers as it can vary from person to person.  It's the build up of uric acid that causes the crystals to form in your joints, normally big toe.  I had to so a similar thing with my crohn's as I knew something was causing an allergic/intollerance reaction in my gut.  After a few months I discovered what it was and I have done my best to avoid it ever since.  The results are fantastic and I have energy again.  Get a notebok and do a lifestyle diary, log all foods, activities and sleep.  Score your level of pain each day and over time you could see a corrolation with one or several factors.  Sometimes they have to work togther to cause your effect, ie eating one thing with something else like por sleep or a certain exercie.  Stick with it, the results can change your life  :y

Oh and if you want to lose weight get in the gym and do strength training.  I started 3 months ago.  I have lost nearly 3 stone, am running over 10km at a time and I am in great shape.  I feel 10 years younger than I am.   :y

The best thing about strength training is that you have to eat more (of the right stuff) in oder to lose weight.  I can go in to detail at some point but I have just been to the gym and smashe my arms and shoulders in to exhaustion, typing this is agony ;D
