after speaking to martin at the weekend and also reading the haynes i've realised i been over inflating my tyres :(
i always went on the max pressure on the tyre (51 psi). i now got 34 psi in each tyre. feels soooo much better :)
-
Whoopsy. 32psi all round I thought, although yours are a different size to mine iirc...? :-\

:o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
How much? :o :o :o :o :o I'm amazed you;re still here to tell the tale & haven't bounced off the road into a field/wall/hedge somewhere!
-
Should have been great for economy, but not for tyre life. Bet you've got a narrow band in the middle of each tyre that is worn far more than at the edges?
-
Must have been like driving on ice ?!!
I run mine at 34 psi, although iirc the factory figure is 32.5 ?
-
I tend to run 35 on the front, 38 on the rear (although mine's an estate) to allow for the extra weight of LPG ;)
-
Presumably you keep the petrol tank pretty full then ?
-
hot weather (above 30 celcius) long trip no more than 30 psi.. daily city driving 32-33 psi.. miggy in rest mode 36-37 psi..
and 51 psi.. ??? as AndyB says how you didnt bounce off from the road and end up in a field, I'm surprised ;D :y
-
reminds me of a courier driver who, due to his reputation, always got the knackered van. mk 2 astra 1.7 d. he got fed up with topping it up so put the whole 5ltr s of oil in.
you can guess the rest. :D
-
17s are 32. Higher profile are normally a bit softer
-
30 front....33 back. Seems fine. :y

:o at least you have them at the normal pressure now :y
-
Ain't too far off my current 46Psi :o :-X
235/45/17
Will have to relive some pressure later ;D
-
32 all round on mine and 38 all round on a long run (holiday/motorway ect) :y

We drained 9.5l out of a 1.2 Corsa yesterday; took over an hour for the poor thing to stop smoking.

lol. I just didnt realise. However its less err boat like now lol just goes to show you should know the basics FIRST :-)
-
oh and by the way weirdly the Tyres arent worn down the centre. The wear is even :-)
-

Normally fill it when it gets empty... Actually it's quite low at the moment so I could drop them a little, but I've always found the Omega listed pressures a little low for standard running and used to run 35 all around to get the best from the tyres ;)
Don't forget, in the estate the LPG tank is behind the rear axle and the tank on it's own (with associated mounts etc) weighs about the same as a tank of the golden go-go juice, plus I normally have another load of crap stuff in the car ::)
That said, I have 4 (very) slow punctures (leaking at the rim I expect) so they soon drop down to the lower, recommended setting.
-
All valid points (smartarse :P),I also think the standard pressures are a bit low tbh, a couple more psi helps with rolling resistance / mpg,and doesnt imo noticeably affect grip. :y
Four slow punctures !! :o...........break the beads, clean the rims up with emery, then pump them up again. :y

Four tyres near the end of their life so it'll wait until they are getting replaced ;)

There's 32 psi front & back on mine, later Elite rims with 235/45/17 and the rears are wearing in the middle as though they're over inflated. I went through a phase of increasing my tyre pressures to the higher settings shown in the handbook when towing, then thought that the extra weight on the back only really equated to an extra bloke sat in the back. Never had any problems. :-\

during my delightful stay in Northern Ireland, there was a bizarre trend the numerous saxo/clit/corsa driving boy racers had. They would purpoesly increase the tyre pressure, to somehow replicate harder suspension.
This one dim wit stacked the car and wrote himself off. Anyway, susbsequent investigations found his tyre pressures to be double the maximum! Would that even work?

Another reduction in the size of the 'stupid' gene pool :D
-
I used to go round with 32 front and 34 rear, because of the LPG tank. I had excessive wear down the middle of the rear tyres, so its 32 all round now with no probs! :)
-
:o I'm not surprised you can feel the difference!
-
Tried to stick 33 bar in mine at morrisons last week :-[
No wonder it was taking ages to pump up ::)

This one being a diesel, decided it didn't need the diesel supplied from the injection pump anymore as it had its own supply.
(run, run as fast as you can!)
