Title: How high can a typical Hiab lift? (Wikes delivery!)
Post by: jtypecav on 26 July 2012, 23:35:07
Hi guys,

I have a 4ft wall and then 5ft+ of hedge (except in one corner where it's just 3ft of wooden fence where hedge hasn't grown on it yet!)

It's in a conservation area and I need to get a couple 1ton bags of gravel / stone plonked in the front garden.

Anyone got any experience of them, or deliveries with them on here?

Its a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question tbh.Depends on the ton/metre capabiltiies of the Hiab and how close it can get to the wall it has to lift the bags over. ;)
If it can get tight to the wall and set them down on the other side a smallish Hiab shouldnt have much trouble ime.

Thanks allbitz!

Here is some of the wall / hedge in question..

Although the trees in the garden (soon to be ex trees) make hedge look larger than it is and it's due its annual trim!

Woop! Many thanks!   :y

Means I can finish the french drain at the rear (ooer) finally and build some hard standing too.

Just bare in mind the the delivery vehicle will need to extend it's outriggers on the side where the load is to be placed, so it won't be able to get tight to the wall.

However, IME the 17.5t trucks that the likes of Jewsons and Wickes use, should have no problem clearing the hedge.  :y

If the Hiab isnt going to be extended too far from its centre they can often get away with just extending the legs half way. ;)
But as you say James, from looking at the pic it would seem that all but the smallest should do the job easily enough. :y

Thanks chaps. Only issue is that the road outside is quite narrow, only one and 3/4 car widths or so, so unloading is going to cause a little delay I would have thought!!
