windscreen washer not working at first it was just the windscreen but then the headlights packed in
I have checked for voltage at pump and there is nothing
I was wondering about the stalk but the wipers fire up so can anyone advise where I start to look
I know fuse ok so is there a relay for the washers and if so where
cheers

just because the wipers work doesnt mean the switch for washers is ok,put a 12v feed to pump and make sure it works before doing anything else
-
when you trigger the washers the wipers also work that is why i am assuming the switch is ok or is there 2 switches???
I have measured the motor with ohms meter and measured if voltage getting to motor there is none

Windscreen washer all fed from Fuse 3, along with wiper motor. Simple circuit consisting of stalk, wiring and pump.
Headlight washers fed from different fuses, via a timed relay. So you're probably looking at switch (stalk) or wiring.
-
ok so if i pull the stalk in to wash the screen and the wipers start moving does that not prove the stalk is ok !!! and that the fault must be somewhere in the wiring if so has anybody had this problem or could they guide me to best place to look
-
check the group of earth wires just under the battery to the left.
-
on to it right now cos just been reading manual re removing stalk and theres no way i am doing that I would rather have a sqeezy bottle with screen wash in car
-
tried earths no luck but I hadnt tried to put the rear washer on and this is also not working the rear wiper comes on and you can hear a clicking noise is it still looking like the stalk
-

There's only a few screws that hold the cowl around the top of the column in place & then press a tab on the stalk to remove it. :y
-
ok I just need to confirm this before i start ripping steering wheel off there is a clcking noise from a relay that suggest that the stalk is working, well for the rear window even though the pump doesnt fire up.I just dont buy that the stalk is at fault for both front screen and rear screen at same time unless a common feed goes in to stalk and physically inside has broken that feeds 2 separate switches well 4 switches if you include front and rear wipers
-
As said earlier, there is a stalk, some wiring, and a pump.
Decide, and investigate.
-
You've proved, in your mind its not the stalk. Move on to next....
...although the best way of checking wiring is end-to-end test with meter, so stalk still needs to come out.
And once out, I'd test the stalk ;)

I have asked several times ( as I cannot find full circuit diagram of the stalk)
does this stalk consist of several switches if I had got back a yes I would not have carried on I would have imediately gone to stalkl
can you answer the question?

It's a common pump if that's of any use. Front screen the pump spins one way, rear screen, the pump spins t'other way. :-\

On estates, it has to reverse polarity to the pump. So its feasible that one switch in the stalk is duff. Anyone who says the wheel has to come off to remove the stalk is wrong. 5 screws, and on MFL and later, the knob for adjusting rake has to unscrew out
Wiring, corrosion is about only reason. Assuming no idiot has cut into it and taped it, the only likely place is at pump connector.

Sorry, didn't see this before. Not really relevent in this case, as its not where the system is grounded :)

thanks I thought i had to remove steering wheel before doing anything else (haynes manual)
I will have a bash tommorow at investigating .

Wiring diagram is in same Haynes manual :y
-
Steering wheel at 90 degrees anticlockwise, reveals a screw underneath a cap.
Steering wheel at 90 degrees clockwise, reveals similar screw other side
Top cowling lifts off
Unscrew rake adjustment
3 screws under lower cowling
Untangle from rubber around ignition
lower cowling drops off
To quote Haynes, refit is reverse method.

as I said (#8 ;)) just a few screws to remove the cowling - not even sure you need to remove the handle from the column tilt lever. :y :y

Doable, but really fiddly lifting over ignition switch. Far quicker to unscrew it, for the 3s it takes...

As long as it will come off. I never managed to remove my Senator's ::) :y ....... but we're digressing ::) ::)

I had a problem with my headlights, they were working fine before I did some work, after that they didnt work on one side. Did as many checks as I could including stalks, turns out it was the fuse holder in the fuse box wasnt getting a good connection, maybe this is where your problem lies?

Fuse proved OK

I mean the actual part the fuse blades slot into, my fuses were all good, it was the lower of the two connectors for that fuse, in the fuse box
