Title: oil temp in red?
Post by: D3f1anCE on 29 July 2012, 12:15:34
hi guys got another issue i hope you could help with? after nearly 5 weeks off the road due to needing a new crank case sensor and no tax...i finally got my 2.5 v6 elite auto back yesterday in time for a family trip out...whilst stuck in traffic i noticed the oil temp dial was shooting up into the red section whilst the car was stationary and when in motion it was hovvering around the 130 degrees mark . i got the car off the road as quickly as possible and gave it 5 hours to cool down but it did it again on a second drive that day!i have also notice that it keeps needing me to check coolant level and top up,yet i have never seen any trace of water dripping from the engine?i have noticed a minor oil leak around the bottom of the gearbox and sump...any ideas ? do i just need to buy oil and top it up? or is it something more deadly i need to address? :o

No oil temp on the omega so it will be the coolant temp  :y

If your loosing water and can't see any puddles on the floor, you may have a knackerd HBV.
You will find it at the back of the engine (drivers side)

Looks like a flying saucer with 3 large water pipes and 1 small vacuum pipe on it.

Rob will be along with a picky of it in a minute   lol

Heater Bypass Valve...

Around £40 all in from your local Vx. dealer, easy enough to fit but you do need to confirm this is the source of your problems first.
