My mrs is now driving my Saab, but she has a personal plate that she wants to put on it. How does she go about this? She has the retention certificate, what else does she need or have to do? Our nearest dvla office is a 70mile round trip away so thought I'd ask before we head there tomorrow.

Hope this helps.

Cheers guys, it's off to Carlisle tomorrow then. I've never had a car with a personal plate, but the other half likes them and the Plate she has doubles as he's initials and her business.
Out of interest, how many of you have private plates on your omegas?

Have one on my Omega & another on my Monaro.
It's very easy to transfer over :y :y

On a retention cert it will ake prob no more than 5 mins to complete over the counter. And no additional cash either. :)
Take your V5c (logbook) as well as the MOT cert. If you have a source of plates then get a set made and take a roll of double sided tape. The LVLO will reissue the MOT under the new reg as well as give you a tax disc expiring on the same date but with the personal reg on it. You can either send the old one back or shred it, they will say how to deal. (They will also issue a paper to allow you to get a new set of plates made somewhere if you do not have a source.)
If all goes OK then when back at the car, swap tax discs and plates and drive home with your new plate on proud display!! :y

Don't forget to inform your insurance company, legally you need to & also for RFL purposes.

If its on retention the change is over the counter. If its car to retention or car to car then it's done by post, I have found. :y

One other question lads. The retention certificate has her previous address on it. Will that make any difference? The Saab is registered to our new address.
