Hello,
I've had another stupid idea!! :D :o lol! *shock horror!*
this latest, stupid idea is...
buy a manual omega rolling shell (previously v6 with throttle cable)
anyway, buy said carlton 3.0 straight 6 lump, rebuild it, stick it in the omega, use a carlton engine ecu and build the engine up with crank, rods and pistons and turbo it :P same lump as the LC without being stroked and just run less power- still quite alot more than an omega and see where it goes lmao! and dont say "bang" or "backwards through *insert random object*"

12v bottom end bored out to take the 3.7 crank.
Ported 12v head with high lift cam.
Dual ram setup and loom from 2.6.
Remapped 24v ECU.
That should give enough torque to stop rhe world turning and about 300 bhp.
I have planted the same spec in the mind of a chap over on TC. He has just bought the LC crank and rods etc from a friend of mine while another friend has the 12v engine with modded head and cam.
Meanwhile Im planning a 3.0 12v with the 2.6's dual ram and stock 24v management.
-
surely you'd be better using the 24V cylinder head instead of 12V with high lift cams?
your trying to improve airflow through a 12V head, why not just use the 24V head which flows better anyway and then add high lift cams to that if anything?
im not trying to drag down your idea just saying as it seemed a bit daft

I would use the 12v setup because it is stronger than the 24v and less succeptable to chain failure.
Also the parts are much cheaper and easier to source for the 12v as the whole timing chain setup is the same as the 2.0/2.2 CIH used in the Manta, Fronteta etc.
Theres method to the madness!

Sounds good to me :y

2jz would be easier, practical and have future for heavy mods..
and in order to break the bottom end you must be forcing the doors of 1k hp at least

yep.. it wont be to cheap to re-build a cheap engine everyday also ;D :y

lol at cem, your obsessed with the supra engine :P
question for cem.... is the non turbo version the same lump with different compression and minus a turbo or what? i mean if we're just going to go for stupid lumps then i'd just buy a koenigsig s/c v8 and run it on e85 which i cant even buy oop norf
and sorry for disliking the 12V head but i like my 4 valves per cylinder, plenty to bendy bendy :P

what about shoe horning a 3.0 auto into a chevette.......... :y

yes .. and why not ? ;D :P those engines are bulletproof and they are prooving themselves at least for a decade ;) show me any 3.0 litre engine working at 500-600 hp as stock except japs :y
and to answer to your question all 2jz engines are same after 98 as vvt-i added at this date.. but even older models have very strong bottom ends.. I have seen an old 1jz still running high boosts ???
ps: another candidate is rb26 from nissan..
-
...yes a certain rb26det :P
whats the engine code for the 300zx twin turbo v6 though?

I think, if I had to choose, I'd probably have the RB26DET or 2JZ over the VG30DETT; despite the fact that I owned the latter.. the bottom end is just as bulletproof but the rest of it is prone to leaks and annoying issues, more so than the two straight six options, from what I can tell.
Then again, a V does sound lovely.

i dont know what to do, i may just end up buying an engine and playing with it making it run right in a garage and in a jig and then look at putting it in something :P lol

Ls3 v8 is what you want.
Not cheap or easy, but it's been done. :)
-
LOL! thing that puts me off is ecu and steering rack. id quite like an engine and just have it to mess about with and start up in the garage- like the top gear food blender, i could have whatever then lol!
then when id got it running right out of a car i could put it in something :P
