Title: A sudden pull !
Post by: duggs on 08 August 2012, 13:11:28
When braking, at speeds of over 50mph, my Elite dips strangeley to the left. When I release the brake it kinda bounces back straight again...almost as if the brakes to each wheel are a split second out of sinc with each other.  Any ideas ?   Brakes/disks are less than a year old and lower wishbones (pattern parts) have been on about 1.5 yrs.

Split bushes...? Worth a jack up and lever with a bar.

Or loose wb bolts? Does the steering turn the wrong way?

Hi Chris,

Yes....wheel tugs to the side also...NOT forcibly...but a definate slow tug...its funny because as soon as I lift off the break she kinda springs back up !

It does sound like one of the rear bushes has wear, your brake discs should be fine at that age.

Rear bush issue possibly. Needs a jack up poke about. See what bush is failed. If the rears are ok, fit polly fronts. But the rears sound suspect tbh.

I would be checking the front nearside spring is all intact as well.

Hmmmmm  !  Just remembered that wishbones were an advisory during MOT last November...Perhaps their time is up !

Can't afford genuines though so most likely will have to be cheapo's again.

With cheap pattern wishbones 18months is probably the life cycle, depending on your mileage ;)

Thank you all very much for your input on this, advice strongly taken.

Spoken to the garage who inform me that those that went on mine have also gone onto Taxi's....they then last about 3 months !!!!!

SO....have ordered a couple of Lemforder's from the recommended "All German Parts" company. They'll be here for tomorrow for fitting on Friday.

Insure the front bush bolts are tightened wheels loaded.

Oh, and if you have hids the bolt hole is not tapped. Just needs a longer bolt with nut on the back.

Cheapo wishbones mate. Not worth the risk IMO.

Mine does something similar - under braking it will always follow the camber of the road (usually to the near side, obviously) and you have to steer it back.. let off the brakes and all of a sudden you're steering the other way again.

Really, really, really ought to do those wishbones  :-[ If only I weren't so impossibly lazy..  ;D
