Title: Look What I've Found.
Post by: waspy on 11 August 2012, 18:07:41
Some of you may recall a few weeks back I asked what's the most you've found in a car, money etc.
Well today I decided to remove the seats & carpets from Burt & give them a good clean. Seats out, vacuum cleaner in.
Then it was the carpets turn to come out to get the shampoo treatment.
I was tugging on the driver's side carpet when what I thought for a second was a brass bush dropped out the front of the center console (next to ash tray).

Turned out to be this

Looks like gold with a platinum insert and possibly a real diamond....

Think id be online looking up those hallmarks stamped on the inside before getting it valued  :)

I thought platinum insert too. I've been thinking how to view the hallmarks & I remembered when I was a kid I used to remove the eye piece from my binoculars to view insects up close :y
Off to have a look :)

might I suggest applying for the car's history from DVLA and contacting the previous owners to see who's lost one ?

Yes, I think I'd be doing that. It might be 50 quid to you, but it might be of great sentimental value to the person who was given it in 1956. :-\

I was about to make that point but see the above posters agree.... :y
Some things can be worth little in value, but worth a gold mine to the owner

This has already crossed my mind & it was the first thing I thought of. I have not made a decision yet as I need to deal with the inept DVLA.
At any point have I mentioned weighing it in for scrap?
With certain things I do have a conscience, but with many things I do not ;)

If that's a wedding/engagement ring, and it was tucked away near the ashtray in the car, then I suspect that it wouldn't have meant that much to the previous owner.  They had probably taken it off, prior to getting up to some mischief in the back! Omega estates have many uses...  ;)

DVLA process is relatively painless.

You just need to write to them and send a cheque.

then they send someone into the archives to look out the history.

Nice to see the b*stards being made to work for a living for a change.

have done it before for the Lotus and the Escorts

You know what'll happen though..... You'll write to 3 previous owners saying you've found a gold ring, and they'll all write back saying thanks it's mine, I was devastated, it was my Mum's, etc etc etc....  ::) ::) ::)

and they'll all be forum members!!!!  ;D :D

That sneaksy theiving hobbit tricked me. I saw him drop my precious into the bowels of Mordor. It seems it was a decoy and my precious was taken from Middle Earth and was lost until now....

It's mine, precious, and I wants it >:(
