Travelling back from the holiday in Ireland today, driving down to London from Holyhead, heard a bang, bit of burning smell, so pulled over.
Turns out the car spat a spark plug out.
Thread is still on the plug, so it may be the thread in the head is gone, bugger.
Mg zt 190 is the car, anyone have any experience with a similar problem?
Thinking back, heard a funny noise off and on during the drive down, thought it was a stone in the tyre, I guess it was the plug working loose.

Better getting a timesert fitted as much stronger. I had one fitted on a BMW that did exactly the same last year for £90

A Helicoil is much cheaper, and plenty strong enough

When mine popped out it had a helicoil attached

My only experience of a helicoil is in the sump of my old BMW engined TD. Being BMW, its made of monkey metal, so both sumps I'd fitted had stripped. So MDTM helicoil it, and we fitted a quickdrain plug. Last bit was a bad move - at 80mph, the car launched, and on landing, the plug caught. Never found the plug, but no damage to helicoil - just fitted a new plug, put some oil back in, and no ill effects

Never had it on any Rover I've ever owned.

Finally home, only 4 hours late, so,not too bad!
Rac guy couldn't refit the plug, but the thread is a bit shagged at the start, so I'm ever hopeful that a new plug will catch and the thread in the head is ok, not holding my breath tho.
Is it easy enough to helicoil the rear bank of plugs on a horizontal monted v6 without taking the head off?

Yup,
Cars been nothing but bad luck since I had it.
It had seemed to be really running well till then too.
I'll have to check them all now won't I. A fun job for tomorrow night.
KNew I should have just got another omega
