Hi, not sure if this has been asked before, Google was not helpful.
Is the facelift Omega more refined in terms of ride quality, comfort and driveability? As in, does it ride smoother, quieter, corner better etc? Or was it simply interior/exterior changes?
Thanks!

All Omegas are OmegaB, the facelift was mainly cosmetic changes. Newer engines arrived soon after, these were to comply with new emission regulations. Specification in MV6 changed slightly with shock and spring setup compared to earlier versions.
They all drive the same & handle the same, it's the spec which makes a difference.
Elite - smooth but boat like in corners
MV6 - slightly firmer ride, corners better
But remember they are 2ton saloons not a hot hatch :)

:y As said by tunnie, thats exactly what they are (and yet they can still beat many of the supposed boy racers in their 'hot hatches')!
Small wonder then why the bobby's preferred them and still do, isn't it...........
Yeh, and add to that if you are in a serious motor to motor bang then the chances are you will be a lot better off than the other one. ;)

So if I where to buy a '97 Omega and a '03 Omega (non MV6) they would be 100% identical? All the same part numbers underneath etc?
Thanks for the reply :)

No...several differences...throttle would DBW on the 03...no EGR and individual coil packs for plugs in place of single dispack and leads on the earlier model....different catalytic converters with dual lambda sensors on the 03 ..to mention just a few.
So quite different in truth :D

Afaik the only difference that effected handling was the introduction of lowered sports chassis on the face lift mv6, which has a 15mm lower ride height.
Otherwise chose your handling and ride quality according to posts above.
But bare in mind the cars age. A good proportion really should have new suspension and steering components by now tbh. So on average the face lift should be marginally better purely on age.

Mechanically, identical. No reworking of suspension (MV6 aside) or drivetrain (except a change of engines in 2001). Facelift is a little heavier, but not enough to change ride/performance.

Virtually, except the post 2001 will have the newer (not necessarily better) range of engines. Interior parts, and some exterior parts are obviously different on the restyled facelifted version. As said, the engines, especially the engine management, are different, although share the same heritage.

Thanks for all the replies guys!
You mention that the newer range engines are not necessarily any better. I've spotted a facelifted omega with the 2.5 engine for sale, so I suppose that would be the best of both worlds?
I know this sounds kinda silly, but I prefer the interior dash of the pre facelift to the face lift one (if it’s all in black) don’t ask why. However, I like the exterior of the facelift better. :-\
