Title: Elite Rear Lap Belt Only
Post by: BridgeyBoy on 21 August 2012, 14:50:41
Hi all
I have recently acquired a near mint P reg 3.0 Elite Omega with only 83k on the clock (see my previous post for pics). I am absolutely made up with it… apart from one thing. The rear seat (leather / heated) only has a centre lap belt. Ideally I would like to replace this seat with a 3 point seat belt. Couple of questions;

1)   Would I need only the seat back or the seat base aswell (there is obviously a seat belt buckle the lap belt in the seat base that’s in there now
2)   If I do have to change the base, will I lose the rear seat heating? i.e are the heater elements in the seat base itself or on the seat chassis underneath

Ideally, I want to have 3 x 3 point belts AND keep the heating!

Cheers
Dave

IIRC it`s just a question of aquiring all the components for the centre belt and fitting.  Not sure whether a tapped mounting point would already be there for the inertia reel:-\

Think that might be the issue - Op worth checking first ;)

Can't imagine a P Reg of any spec not having the mounting hole. I wonder why your Elite hasn't a 3 point belt fitted, perhaps it's a converted GLS?  ::)

no - this wasn't a requirement at "P"-reg.

Motor manufacturers are lazy - they react really only to legislation. At the start of Omega B, centre lap was the requirement  - and these cars are built as such. For later models, rear 3-point was introduced, to react to legislation. The third point coming from the rear parcel shelf.

I would only attempt this if it can be done with standard components - so you need to make sure that the parcel shelf is out-fitted with the mounting point - an adaptation isn't really "on", for reasons that I shouldn't need to explain.

Changing the parcel shelf isn't easy, mind.

I have this notion that my old 1994 ('L' reg) CD saloon had a 3 point centre belt.

No way of checking now though :(

I had a 1995 "M" reg Elite and that had a three point harness for the centre seat.

My old 1996 P Reg CDX saloon had a 3 point centre belt.
