My ('96 2.5 V6 saloon) autobox is dripping a little atf. I can see the source- its a grey plastic connector of some sort at the top passenger side of the box. Is this a simple repair?
If its a box out job I'm afraid I will have to give up on the car. Shame as it just flew through its MOT & is in bloody good nick :(
Thanks

From your pic may be doable from underneath. Not had to do this myself though.

Hi cheers for the replys- I don't think its the speed sensor, that fits into the hole next to the prop connection
I'm pretty sure the leak is from whatever it is in the red circle

Isn't the car's speed taken from an ABS sensor? :-\

Car speed from ABS, gearbox speed from mentioned sensor. ECU compares these two. Or am I missing again...

you have to drop the sump to remove it.the plastic connector is on a "barbed"fitting.be very carefull as you try to remove it as the plastic goes brittle with age and snaps off......

Thanks for the replys, really appreciate it :y
Will see how much the dealer will quote for the part & how much I can get it fitted for tomorrow (not something I can do myself on the drive).
If worst comes to worst, are they are breakers who would want to buy the car? I'd rather some use was made of it that just weighing it in. Otherwise its a very clean car which just needs tyres/front wheel alignment and a crack in the corner of the windscreen. Thanks again

the part is available to order and costs £73. My local dealer hasn't fitted one before, should I entrust them or find a gearbox specialist? thanks
-
Gearbox specialist without a doubt! x

Wouldn,t trust a VX dealer to stick a stamp on a letter ;D let alone work on an Omega

The automatic gearbox ECU has its' own speed sensor for the output of the box so it doesn't rely on the ABS sensors. Having said that, that item looks like just a connector. Probably where the speed sensor wiring attaches, but the sensor will be a little more buried.

Like that is it ;D
They're bloody expensive anyway. Think I'll get my local garage to do it & harrass them with diagrams :y
