Title: Torx removal
Post by: Bob G on 29 August 2012, 17:40:09
Yesterday decide to remove the front bumper had given the four tork bolts plenty of soaking in that well known water displacment product, but all were solid resulting in a round hole instead of the * shape, I guess only option now is to carefully drill them out.

Unfortunate. It is an awkward place to do much else but I'd be thinking about the refixing before ploughing in. Haven't thought about it personally as all mine came out ok.

It is possible to work them out using mole grips but it's very easy to tear the arch liner which, as said by 'allen 25', makes refitting awkward...

Can you get a saw cut across the Torx head? You might then be able to use a flat blade screw driver  :-\ :-\ :-\

for those that have welders it's great!! weld a washer to the screw head then a bolt to the washer and wind it out, if you have no welder then mole grips it is!

Don't force it, it will rip the plastic apart and then you'll have no bracket to work with at all.

Drill the head off IMO. But you'll still have the thread/stud stuck in the clip due to rust.
But at leat you can get the bumper off and work on it from there. Disc grinder for the rest of the stud maybe?

Drilling was the best result took less than 5 minutes and out they popped, strangley enough though the 2 underneath came out seeet as anything, you would have thought they would be the worst.
