What could cause the following symptoms on my 2003 2.6 mv6 Omega?
1. Coolant seems to be disappearing, not at an alarming rate but need to top it up maybe 0.5-1l a week. I do reasonably high mileage though.
2. Car never seems to get upto correct temperature whilst running, always sits very low. If its left to idle the temp will climb normally and the fan kicks in and regulates it, no overheating issues or anything.
Car blows hot and cold air fine through the blowers and there is no obvious coolant leaks.
So clever people, fire away :) any more information required ask away! CHEERS!

1. Small leak or cracks around the neck of the expansion tank ?? If the cap does not seal correctly the pressure is low and the water will escape as vapour.
2. Thermostat failed open
:)

As above, plus coolant bridge, oil cooler plate, and possiblt heater bypass valve starting to die.

Lots of places it can leak.
2) Failed stat

Yep guys just confirming what i already suspected re. the thermostat ;D
The coolant one is a bit irritating though >:(

You need to change the stat so will need to take the plenum and inlet manifold off to do the job.You will probably see where the coolant is leaking from when youve taken them off.If not look up details on here on pressurising the cooling system to find leaks. :y

...and plastic inlet wedge, to reveal the oil cooler cover plate completely, if needed. :y
