Title: weird "shaking" during acceleration
Post by: D3f1anCE on 07 September 2012, 12:25:17
hi guys..im have a small issue..i own a 2.5 omega auto..whilst driving the car as i accelerate the car starts struggling between 2000 and 3000 rpm and then is fine again...it does this thru all four gears...almost like the gears cogs have been worn away?
after that engine speed it will surge forward and gain speed as usual has anybody come accross this behaviour before or have any idea what could be happening?
cheers :)

Sounds like it could be a misfire under load check usual suspects ie dispack/leads

As Rob says.

Have a look for oil in the plug wells (failed cam cover gasket)

Have a look at plug leads (helps if it is dark)

DIS Pack is likely culprit at the end though. I had exactly that on my 97 car.  It sits down the back of the engine and "rots" with water. Fiddly to replace and get the plug leads back on in the correct order.

Before you rush off to buy a secondhand known Dis pack (e.g. off a breaker on the forum) you need to know which one is fitted to your vehicle. Some have a round plug and others a more square plug for the loom.

Agree with above - not running on all 6 cylinders under load.

Check for oil in plug wells, check plug condition, check leads and finally check DIS pack (in that order) :y

"dis  pack" new replacement for the distrbutor cap on older cars follow the plug leads back to behind the engine the unit that all plug leads go is the "dis pack"
Apprently its a little difficult to axcess.

Auto gearbox level is checked using the fill/level plug in the side of the box, check the maintenance guide section for both questions.
But your symptoms dont sound like gearbox

You will know when/if you have to do it , its more fiddly than anything but very do-able diy with patience  :y Follow the guide in the maintenance section when/if you come to replace it .. diss pack that is  :)
