Hi. I've just got a 2.2 estate auto. The gearbox has started playing up. It drives smooth for a while but then seems to go into limp mode and is very slow to pull away. The display says Automatic Gearbox fault but no other lights come on. It's better shifting it manually until I can pull over and restart the car which seems to solve the problem for a while. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers

Easy first step is check fluid level - warm up, engine running, get car in air, but level, remove filler plug, ensure filled to this level.
Beyond that, I'd get the engine and gearbox codes read, and post them up here.

Fluid was checked 300 miles ago and all was ok according to garage who serviced it. Have read about the throttle position sensor problem. Is this sensor something I can try cleaning or is it non serviceable? Still trying to find someone with a code reader but may just have to shell out at a local garage for them to plug it in. It's fines if you stop and restart the engine which is making me think its electrical rather than mechanical

Be a good idea to add your location then ;)
