Cant get the oil filter to move and trying to clamp onto the hexagonal top of the plastic oil filter cover but keep slipping and bashing the wiring on the exhaust sensors so have stoppped for now as that may prove expensive if I break the sensor.
Can I use a large socket on it (or spanner) the most I have is 32 mmm and it is bigger than that ...does anyone know what size it is or if there is a better way.....it is a 2.5V6.....I was working underneath
-
Very common on Omega's. Had the same problem when I first serviced my Omega.
Convert to spin on.

Should be a metal cover :-\
24mm socket and patience are all you need :y
Not alot of space for leverage :'(
-
Like it ... although my filter doesn't look like that ... it is black plastic and I would guess the nut size required to undo it would be around 38 mm so much bigger than the one pictured ... I will bear it in mind though as this one is impossible to get off!!!
Definitely different from the one in the pic

The only Omega I know with a plastic cap is the later 2.5TD, which is 36mm.
All V6's have either traditional spin on filter, or the metal cased paper element filter (22mm?)
-
Ok ... it rather sounds like mine has been changed for the wrong one as 36 mmm would be about right ... I tried a 32 mm socket on it and was too small ... should I get a new casing or just carry on ... seems oil tight
-
Could be a moot point if you need to break that one to remove it...
-
a2reed, any chance of a piccy, as something is odd there...
-
OK not near it at mo so will post when I can get under it ... it is V6 2.5
-
Not a spin on filter by chance?
-
In the spin on filter guide. What is the engine the spin on type filter was ment for so I can get right one from autovaux.
Thanks
Mark

The 2.2 DTI has a 36mm plastic cap too.

-
tried 25mm?
That appears to say 25 * 5? or 25 + 5? Wondering if its 25mm with 5Nm? :-\

Looks very similar to the one fitted to the 12v Corsa B :o
I'll take a look @ SWMBOs when she gets home and see if it has anything stamped onto it.
-
It is much bigger than 25mm.... My largest Socket is 32mm and it is too small ... I guess around 36 or so

once you have sorted that I would suggest that you wax oil the rest of the car.
