the age of the train, about the inter city 125 a truly great diesel :y
-
I think we could do with that super quick French loco in the UK.
Well over 300 mph. :D :D :D
Must be a Youtube video knocking around somewhere. :y

Hornby Man will be glued to the telly. Esp if they show Diesel or Diesel-Electric.

Wish damn thing had never been built really, they should of electrified every line we have decades ago.
Look at West Coast Main Line stock, far, far superior than the crap Great Western run.
Electric trains are faster, lighter and quicker out of the platform by a long way.

Unless I've missed something, aren't most train electrically powered, the diesel engine working as an on-demand generator :-\ thus making them less prone to enterprising copper traders and frost ::)

Nope, only one type still in service Class 73 I think? Only used for hire & special duties. Other class was dropped in mid 70's
The HST replacement will have hybrids, as the line will only be electrified so far.
There are plans for others to be converted, think the Voyager DMU's have plans for possible EDMU's

Should add I'm yet to travel in any DMU which is nice, they all are horrible and full of vibration.
