Had an animated discussion with a Spaniard about what a billion euros was.
It got me thinking as really a billion is just too big a number for most folk to understand the enormity of especially when governments talk about bailouts in the billions.
Here are a few one liners of a billion.
A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.
A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
A Billion Pounds ago was only 13 hours and 12 minutes at the rate our government is spending it ;D ;D

When I was at school a billion was a million million. Now it's a thousand million. Bloody Americans.

They only do it so that the number 'looks' bigger.
Bloody Americans.

Well the UK was about £197 Billion in debt though there was some doubt as to how much this actually is.A UK Billion is a million x a million.A US Billion is one thousand x a million which is quite a bit less !
If you multiply this years MP's expenses x next years bankers bonus's that would be about the sum of it i recon.

A billion is a thousand million in America and a million million in this country, but for some reason the treasury use the American billion.
