Title: Custom Cars and Conversions
Post by: Mr Skrunts on 16 September 2012, 15:14:36
I look through the threads  like the Manta A V6 with intrigue as it would have been something I would have loved to have done in days gone by.

I used to be a member of steel city cruisers back in the late 70's and saw some very interesting cars and conversions.

There were a few ford pops with jag engines or V8's in them.

There was an escort van called "survivor"

A CF van called "Invader"

Couple of nice mustangs, 1600E cortina,

There was also a cool looking LHD bettle that the guy reconed ran on NOS, his tank and injection kit was a squezzy wasing up bottle and a pipe fitted to the carb's vacum flange (that was the story going round)

There was an awsome ford thunderbird convertable that ended up all chromed a mirror stainless under the bonnet.

Any one here ever built a custom car (any photos if you did?)  :y

Not sure about custom cars, but i have modified loads of cars over the years. Last incarnations was a Z3 , a sort of modern classic.

first i fitted a supercharger and developed the car, 230hp from a 1.9.

After a bit of time i got a bit bored, found a replacement V8, mustang 4.6.
Here's a pic of it in place.

suspension was coilover, larger front brakes, 6 pot calipers

never done the 'custom' scene, but i always modify !!

Back in 60s - 3.8S Jag engine into 105E Anglia
then MGB engine and o/d box into Riley 1.5
and for a friend 3.5V8 Rover into MGB roadster

All my old pics disappeared when I got divorced I'm afraid

I'm also old enough to have been there first time round ..... ::)
I used to travel to many of the CC shows in the 70's ,Ally Pally , Belle Vue and a couple up in Scotland too and frequented regular cruises here, there and everywhere . Some of the cars were of an incredibly high standard when you consider the equipment available in the day .
If you remember the cars as I do then you'll love this site ,

Spend a hour or so looking up all the old photos ,stories ,fate of the cars , and memories of all who were also there .
Ah , those were the days ......... 8)
