Title: WIM and tyres
Post by: SMD on 17 September 2012, 18:21:20
I will need tyres in the near future and have been looking at WIM website and the tyres are quite expensive. For example Conti Sport Contact 3 supplied and fitted are £194 compared to £126 elsewhere. Has anyone bought tyres from them and is the service worth the extra?

PS: does the Omega require XL tyres?

Could you please explain why? Is it simply because of the weight? I've has two Omegas and neither had them.

Depends if you just want tyres or alignment too, IMHO.

I tend to just get tyres from blackcircles or micheldever. There's a blackcircles agent within walking distance of my office so it beats a trudge over to Chesham.

Alignment is much more of a lottery, of course.

I don't think all Omega's need them, but the ones fitted with 17" alloys a 235/45x17 tyres (which I'm assuming your 3.2 has) are specified with Extra Load tyres.  :y

Kevin, I will get geo setup done by WIM and considered them for tyres until I saw the price. If I get setup done first and then tyres will all the good work be undone? Because last time I got tyre changed, steering became off centre.

Twiglet, thanks will look out for xl tyres when I change them

Get WIM to do the full geo setup first, and make sure they centre the steering wheel.  Then get new tyres fitted, and all will be well.   :y

I recommend Feltham Tyre Centre for wheel alignment.  TW14 0QD.  Very good and not as expensive as WIM. They are familiar with omegas and specialise in geometry.  I recall if you get your alignment done you get 25% off tyres, still not as cheap as http://tyresavings.com/ though - £65 for Infinity 235/45R17 directional tyres.

Same here, although both times I've used them, I've had to return multiple times for them to get the balancing right, and each attempt, I've had to undo the bolts, and retorque properly.  So thats luck of the draw as well.

Fortunately for me, WIM have opened in MK :D

TB - the price I mentioned above is from black circles but my concern is wheel balancing. I should really ring around local fitters to see if they use the Haweka/5 stud adapter which is why I considered WIM.

dbdb - I will stick to WIM for setup but may look at your link for tyres   :y

Jimbob - will ring them when the time comes, thats silly money for that tyre
