I grounded out quite badly today while going up a friends driveway with 4 people on board.
Result ! The box on the drivers side, mid section behind the cat has been badly bashed, with a crumple of about
2". I've also now got a blow from somewhere, it appears to be the first joint after said bashed box towards the front.
I'm hoping this joint can be resealed/tightened BUT is the bashed box a MOT fail IF it still is intact ?
-
No, deformed box not mot failure
-
only mot failure if blowing from exhaust or insecure fitting hth :y

Had her up on the ramps this morning...The joint where 2 pipes meet has been opened up slightly, on of the bolts has been twisted and allowed the exhaust to escape. Hopefully just a case
of replacing the bolts, repositioning the sealing ring and tightening back up.

If thats the cat to mid section join (sounds like it), always worth putting a small dab of exhaust paste on the taper.
Liberally spray plusgas on the bolts, they often seize and shear, and are a bugger to drill and retap.

Thank you Jamie...It is as you said.
Will get an exhaust place to sort it out tomorrow...Will be interesting to see/hear what they try to con me into buying.
From what I can see, it's ONLY the joint that needs fixing...Despite the bash, the box seems to be "whole".

It is sound...but bashed in...Still doing the job by the looks of things.

The exhaust is only a fail if it leaks or is not secure.
If it bottomed out when going over a hump then I suspect that your self levelling suspension is not working. As the rear passengers get in or the boot is loaded the car when started will adjust its own height by inflating the rear shockers to the correct normal height. This is fitted as standard on the Elite 3.0s and I have just got mine back into working order again after some cheapskate pratt changed the SL shockers for standard ones. Only way to check is to get a rear wheel off and look for a rubber sleeve halfway up the shocker and an airline attached near the top.
Hope that helps. If that is the case then Pm me and I can talk you through what I had to do and get. :y

"Cheapskate pratt"....that sadly is me. On occasions, like this one, I REALLY regret going for standard shocks.
Will try to change them back at some point...CAN make a huge difference...Darn it !
