Title: CDX 2.6 V6 2002
Post by: stevenenglish on 24 September 2012, 12:16:07
Hi

Have just purchased omega 2.6 v6 2002, with 70k miles and drove home from collecting yesterday, about 170miles. All fine, however temperature gauge fluctuated between just below 80 mark up to 95 mark, whilst I appreciate that these are guidance only, normally they are stable at just below half way. Anything to worry about?

Am fairly competant with engines and will be having the timing belt, tensioners and water pump changed, is this a fairly straight forward DIY job?

Also the front pads were replaced recently and the dash board states a warning check.

Sorry about all the questions would really appreciate your advice.

Temp sounds fine to me, and the brake pad warning is because no doubt whoever changed the pads couldn't be bothered to fit a new wear sensor.

Many thanks for that.

Is replacing the brake sensor fairly straight forward? Also reading the posts, understand that a timing belt kit from "buypartsby" is a complete kit inc. water pump, thermostat and tensioner, would appreciate advice upon whether this a DIY job or local mechanic.

Thanks

Not sure it includes the water pump, but stand to be corrected as I haven't got mine sorted yet  :(

Hello and welcome to the site. :y

Temperature does seem a little high at 95...
Timing belt is diy'able but you do need a 'locking kit' for the cams.

...front pads were replaced recently and the dash board states a warning check.

These cars always display a 'brake light check' message on the 'stereo' display, it's just waiting for you to press the pedal so it can check the bulbs.
I think brake pad wear is signified by the 'handbrake light' in the speedo housing...

Its a job for a competent DIY mechanic as long as you buy/beg/steal/borrow the proper cam locking/setting kit.Dont even think of attempting the job without it. ;)
OOF shop has a DVD for very little money which shows how to do the job step by step. Its worth its weight in gold the first time you do the job. :y

Many thanks for all your advice. Contacted main dealer for price and thought had bought the garage at £750, labour at £90 per hour.

However will sort that. One other query, all the interior courtesy lights are not working, over head above screen not working nor doors. Does light in glove box complete circuit as this does not work either?. Your response would be greatly appreciated.
