Title: Wet Gearbox selector switch
Post by: Jimbob on 25 September 2012, 14:34:42
Weve some localised flooding around here, nothing too deep.....

but enough to cause Big Blue's selector switch to light up like a christmas tree..

Whats the best procedure?

leave it to dry out naturally?
take it off?

should I open it up....and do what?

I may have a spare here already....again, what should be done to refurb?

I would say that opening it up and drying it off would be preferable, if you can spare the time. It might dry out itself and work again, but that will no doubt leave some crud and corrosion inside. Better it's sorted now than it lets you down later when you've forgotten it happened. ;)

any grease or anything recommended?

or open, clean with switch / contact cleaner, reseal?

Not much required grease wise in there, a bit of vaseline at the most.

I seem to recall changing that one before when Bob had it, there a bit harder to get at/off with the pre-cats present (in fact the precats are a pain for a number of jobs!)

That was another Telford job, IIRC.

Yes, found mention of Bobs back in 08 or sommat.

Ill wait for everywhere to dry out, then Ill take it off.

Have a spare if needs be.
