Title: Grounding the motor
Post by: Andy89 on 25 September 2012, 19:11:03
I'm putting together a reconditioned engine, and I want everything to be spot on.
And as the alternator and the starter motor are earthed through the engine block, i thought it might be a good idea to have some conductive grease between them to keep out rust.
Or is it not necessary at all?

The enginge and the car its going into: :P

Just give the surfaces a clean up with a bit of scouring pad.
Should be good enough  :y

I've removed & refitted quite a few starters & alternators on various cars over the years, I've never actually come across any corrosion.

So it will be good enough by just removing the paint and have some clean surfaces?

A bit of copper grease won't go amiss. I have seen situations where moisture has got between such surfaces and corrosion has caused a poor connection.
