Is your garage is using pattern gaskets? ::)
-
Are they fitting genuine GM gaskets, I find that pattern parts don't last long at all even when fitted correctly.
-
And welcome to the forum . :y :y :y :y
-
Also need to check they are cleaning all the breather system and not just the box on top of the plenum. ;)
-
Welcome. 'keeps blowing the gasket". How many times have they done it? New gasket, full breather clean and regular oil changes
-
thanks for the comments, the work in question has been done at GM main dealer so I would hope they are using genuine parts, this job has been done five times now, spoken to them this morning, they have re-done them taken it for a test drive & it blew again! they said the engine is breathing heavy, but if the breather system is ok how can this be?

If its blown in that short period of time there must be a serious blockage or they are not being fitted right.
Have they removed and cleaned breather system?
-
Which dealer ? They seem utterly incompetent tbh.If they fit genuine gaskets, properly, and make sure the breather system is properly cleaned, theres no reason why the gaskets should continually leak.
I hope they arent billing you every time they get the job wrong ?

What like some phone pest pervert,(boll0cks) If they are cleaning ALL the breather system properly there is no reason for gaskets to blow so soon I do hope if they have invoiced you for every repair you have told them to stick them where the sun doesn't shine >:(
-
honestly mate this sounds like utter 'dangle berries', as the other lads mentioned.
i'm going to tell you my first instinct..... and that's that they are not getting the half moons correctly in place. its the only thing they can get wrong as far as im aware that would ''blow'' on an initial test drive. imo
-
If Half moons were not sealed you would have an oil slick not just a leak ;D
I would be more suspicious about them tightening the fixing bolts down to wheel nut torque :o and spreading the covers off the gaskets causing them to start leaking as soon as the camshafts start turning
-
straight away like that????
as said i'm just guessing :y

:o
Engine breathing heavy because all its breather system is blocked :y
-
Engines breathe heavily if/when (bore/piston-ring) wear causes significantly more blow-by gases than normal.
-
Hi all, as this repair is still under warranty there is no charge thank goodness, I will not name the dealer at this stage, to be fare they have been quite accomadating, plucking courtesy cars out of the air, giving me trade discount on parts & reduced labour, but it is a worry when we are on first name terms!!!

Print the breather cleaning guide off from the maintenance section and take it in to them.
-
May be worth asking if they can double-check the TIS instructions for doing the job. Maybe they are not using a torque wrench, maybe the camcover is split? If they have really overtightened them previously, the camcover may have distorted?
This in addition to breather issues.
-
maybe it does not help that the new covers they have renewed are plastic, why would gm change from metal to plastic?
spoken to garage today they keep insisting the breathers are clear !!
les
-
Metal covers used on Vectra, it has a different breather setup

So were your old cover's metal :-X
-
As tunnie say :y
Omega never had the metal covers fitted.
If the plastic covers are ok, decient vx seals used and bolts are torqued down in i.a.w spec then you won't get any problems :y
If the cover bolt are over torqued, it will warp the covers and leak like a sieve :(
Also best to replace the small "o"ring seals for the bolts.

Hi all got it back at last, as sugested I told them about the maintenance details & they said they didn't know thats were the breathers were, any way it all seems ok for now, thanks to you guys for all the input, I am thinking about selling it on now if anyone is interested it is 2000 W reg 2.5 V6 elite estate in gold, as you would imagine the engine is all sparkley & clean now! bodywork is pretty good, 17 inch alloys with good tyres.

yep i know this story well , had a similer problem , ended up fitting cam boxes aswell as gaskets , but had to make sure breathers were all clear to which they were after giving them the major clean out they needed , one pipe even broke as was full of dried crap , now after sorting this problem ages ago its back as it should be .... good luck with the dealer :y
